Genres

Last week, you learned the eleven main genres of film. For this week's blog, imagine that you are a character in a movie and tell me which main genre you'd best fit into, and WHY. (Remember, include at least three complete sentences, proper mechanics, and your name in your post.)

Color Symbolism

Now that you know a little bit about color symbolism in film, tell me why you think color symbolism is different in eastern versus western cultures. Also, why do you suppose colors became symbolic, or had meanings/emotions attached to them, in the first place? (As always, answer in at least three complete and grammatically correct sentences.)

Physical Comedy

This week we are learning about two physical comedians, Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. Define physical comedy and describe two examples of physical comedy "stunts." Also, if we had a time machine that could transport these two actors/comedians from their late twenties to the present day, which of them do you think would be more successful in today's films, and why? (As always, write at least three complete sentences with proper mechanics.)

About Me

My photo
I wouldn't call myself an expert at film history, but I've always had an interest in it. Years ago, I took my first film analysis class and it changed the way I thought about movies when I watched them. It opened my mind and broadened my perspective in a way that made movie watching so much more enjoyable. Now when I watch movies I'm able to look beyond the surface story and really dig into the heart of the film maker's message. I notice things like color and camera angles and it makes me feel like I know more about the movie than the average Joe. The whole movie experience has changed for me and I hope that this class opens the same doors for you as well.
