Historical and Cultural Influences on Film

Films often highlight events from history. They also tend to reflect specific cultures. We just finished watching and discussing a few clips from Forrest Gump. Please describe at least two historical events and two cultural reflections from the movie that are true to America. (Don't forget: write at least three complete sentences and check your spelling, punctuation, and grammar.)

  3. In the movie, Forest Gump, there were many historical events and cultural reflections. Some historical events were when Forest Gump was fighting in the Vietnam war and when he was at the peace rally. A couple of cultural reflections were when a speaker at the peace rally was wearing an American flag shirt and when Forest's friend was wearing hippie attire.

  4. After watching some clips from the movie, Forest Gump, I detected many historical and cultural aspects including the following. As for the historical events, the Vietnam War played a big part in the movie and history. Another would be the Peace Rally celebrating peace between the two countries. A couple of the cultural reflections included, surprisingly, Dr. Pepper! This movie showed who drank it and how popular it was as it is today! Another cultural aspect is that there was a football game playing on T.V. and that shows the ways(or lack there of) the forms of entertainment has changed.

  9. Prevalent historical events and cultural reflections occurred in the movie, Forest Gump. A few historical events is when Forest Gump is featured fighting in the Vietnam War and also when Forest Is engaged in meeting President Kennedy. Lastly, some of the cultural reflections is when we distinguished the speaker at the peace rally wearing a patriotically shirt of the American flag. Also, when one of Forests friends was wearing hippie attire is another example of cultural reflection.

About Me

My photo
I wouldn't call myself an expert at film history, but I've always had an interest in it. Years ago, I took my first film analysis class and it changed the way I thought about movies when I watched them. It opened my mind and broadened my perspective in a way that made movie watching so much more enjoyable. Now when I watch movies I'm able to look beyond the surface story and really dig into the heart of the film maker's message. I notice things like color and camera angles and it makes me feel like I know more about the movie than the average Joe. The whole movie experience has changed for me and I hope that this class opens the same doors for you as well.
